Hey apologies if this is answered already, I couldn't find the specific answer I was looking for. I bought a second hand Technika saorview box on adverts.ie and am just wondering what type of aerial I need. Living in Dublin City (D7) if that helps

Are you at a decent elevation like in Cabra or Phibsboro? You may get away with an indoor aerial but best to look at your neighbours' houses to see if they have aerials on the roof pointing in a particular direction.

The transmitters you'd be looking at are Three Rock and Kippure. If there's obstructions directly south of you then you'd be best to go for Kippure which is roughly SW but Three Rock is closer, to the SSE. In either case a wideband UHF aerial will do the job if an indoor aerial won't cut it.

The broadcasters recommend an outdoor aerial clear of the roof, so that is what you should use.

Inspired by some lad who posted that he used a coat hanger I bought an aerial for €2 in a discount store! works grand, tv3 is a bit skippy

TV3 should be the same as RTE 2 HD as it is on the same mux. There are two muxes with RTE 1 HD on the second mux together with UTVi etc. Check your signal quality and strength - quality being the most important.

It's not working 'grand' then, 'a bit skippy' means your signal quality is very poor, only slightly above complete failure.
