Haven't played in a long, long time since they branched off with the other version and then rejigged what they were doing with it. Brother and I put a good amount of hours into the legacy version but we keep saying these days we'll return to it.

I'd feel pretty............rusty............if I went back now and try to pick things up. Hurr Hurr! :pac:

I really like the game and really want to get stuck into playing it, but there's one deal breaker that keeps me from playing at the moment which is the regular server wipes. Most high pop servers wipe their servers weekly (others wipe 2-4 weeks) because server performance degrades due to so many objects being created like base parts. This is tied to the limitations of the Unity engine but Facepunch are working with Unity to sort out. I'm probably going to hold off playing until server's are stable enough that they don't need wipes regularly.

Used to love it. Went back a couple of months ago only to sign into headshots from god knows where and noclippers through walls.
    Just uninstalled again sadly :(

I would love love love to bring our boards.ie Prick gang for Rust again. We were freaking brutal. One of the best gaming moments I ever had was on Rust with Boardsies.

Problem is you need to invest so much time in to it and play Rust every day for hours and even then there will be bigger fish out there, who will eat you. Playing Solo Rust is just impossible.
I am playing exile mod for Arma 3 right now and it is a bit more friendly for small gangs and solo.

I played a bit new version and it is stunning. Performance and visuals are just amazing. It really grew up since the old times.

Our fail raid. we were useless that night. Killed each other so many times while trying to break in there. Wasted so many explosives and came out with nothing. Though we had such a laugh.

Do any of these sorts of games ever get finished? I'm not paying money for an early access game that's in constant flux and that has no clear end game in sight.

God, I cant find that video we had done. Where we were abusing poor Kyran. Making him kill people in the name of Jesus Christ, our lord and saver. :D

If you have never inatalled or played it i can see why you might think that but Rust really is not like DayZ imo, dont think its trying to be either.

Just wish it was a bit more accesable to smaller groups

I like it, but i don't have friends who play PC games.

Rust is awesome when played with a group (and the group i used to play it with don't play anymore).
But rust is terrible when played solo. It's impossible to accomplish anything in the face of large organised groups.

I don't play anymore myself due to this. The same goes for every other cookie cutter survival game out there.

I feel bad about it. Its a game i really enjoy, but i feel like i'm being blocked from it.

Played it since it was first released, up until a few months ago. Moved to Ark with all my friends. Haven't played since.

The fun of Rust originally for me was waking up with a rock, and not knowing what the hell to do. Just trying to build your first shack, and get some food before you starve to death was a big task.

The game is too complicated now I think. I preferred the simplicity of it. No mistake though, it's still a fantastic game and the developers are constantly working on it.

I still play from time to time solo/ in small groups, but its a brutal experience at best. The community is 95% horrible and that is being kind. I remember playing when it launched on Steam and you have these little villages of new players banding together - those days are long gone now. The changes made with the addition of the pumpjack and quarry have really ruined it for small groups or solos now. You have no choice in where you place them (they give varied resources per location so you may have to build you quarry in a very exposed position) just to get the high quality ore which is vital to build medium and higher tier weapons. A thompson sub machine gun needs 35 high quality metal which means you need to mine 35 rocks just to get one gun which is a huge grind unless you have a quarry which are like magnets to raiders.

That said, its pick up and play is pretty amazing and there is almost always something new to play with each update.

For Day standalone they made some terrible choice from the very beginning with that game, like using the Arma 2 engine with Arma 3 coming out soon after. I read they were upgrading the engine from Direct X 9 to Direct X 11 which is a huge and unnecessary task if they waited for the Arma 3 engine to be available.

This brings me to the Arma 3 mods which I am very disappointed in, not because they are bad, but the Arma 3 engine seems very mod unfriendly like the Arma 2 engine (2 hourly server reboots, very basic glitches etc) Anyone who has loaded guns into a safe - only to find anything put in after its full simply de-spawns will understand the misery of the Arma 2 mod glitches. As I understand it the Arma 2 modding community came out of nowhere so Bohemia Interactive did not making the engine very user friendly. This should not have been an issue with the Arma 3 yet it still seems very difficult for its extremely dedicated modding community to make the kind of progress a truly moddable engine would have given them.
