I have finished the first semester in my current college but will not be attending the rest of the academic year as the college does not suit.

I hope to apply to an other college again this year on the CAO but I am just wondering now that I have withdrew from this college will I have the pay the tuition fee + the student contribution as I do not qualify for any grants.

If you withdraw before the end of January you will have to pay 50% tuition fees. If you withdraw after January you will have to pay the full tuition fees.

Do you intend on applying for the same / similar course in a different college?

Yes it is a similar course its just that the college I am in now does not have the
common year to branch into the area I want. So I would pay 50% of the tuition fees for the new college + the €3000 student contrition charge?

Yup, 50% tuition + €3000 SCC (assuming it's still the same after the budget).

One option you might not even be aware of, or might not have considered is transferring. If you stay where you are and complete the year (providing you pass all your exams) and with the proviso that you would have had enough CAO points for entry to the course in the other college - it is entirely likely that you can transfer to the other college and progress (ie. proceed from 1st year in DCU to 2nd year in NUIG).

You need to look at the transfer protocols for the college you are intending to transfer INTO. These are easily found on the college website. If you say what college(s), I can even find and post the web pages for you.

Transferring would save you dropping out, the wait while re-applying and re-entry, repeating 1st year, and obviously the wasted tuition fees + SCC.

I dont think I could get a transfer between the two course as some of the modules are fairly different and would feel more comfortable starting in a new college in first year.

I hope to apply for this course :

And here seems to be what the tuition fees are?

Say I do the new course next year and pay the SCC + tuition fee does that mean I just pay the tuition fee the first year or every year also with the SCC?

If in doubt, email and ask. If you're not eligible or don't want to then fair enough.

Yeah, that's the fees alright. IT's have quite cheap fees in general, as do level 7's. So you're only looking at €125 tuition fees really.

You're only liable for whatever you have previously completed (or rather what the government paid for). So if you only completed half of year 1, then you will only pay 50% tuition fees for year 1 when you re-enter. If for example you dropped out in Feb of year 2, you'd have to pay 100% tuition for years 1 + 2.

You will always have to pay the SCC, regardless.
