As the title says, what would ye recommend for the peddling in the winter? Would require it to be warm & waterproof for road cycling. Have a waterproof jacket already, so what else is needed. Only a summer cyclist up to now.

So what make/brands/type would ye recommend?

    Ok you need....

    1. A winter cap
    2. A pair of winter gloves
    3. Winter bib tights
    4. A pair of winter socks (hiking socks)
    5. A pair of winter overshoes.

Of course if you intend cycling more than once a week, you'll need two or three of each!

I've edited my first post a little. What I'm really after are brands. I know I need waterproof and warm stuff, but what brands are recommended that do the job at reasonable prices

    1. Mudguards, lowest hanging fruit by a distance for warmth. On a dry day with wet roads it'll keep that cold stream of water of back and feet.
    2. Decent jacket, prendas, Castelli etc but with 1 you don't need to break the bank either
    3. From eliminating faff winter boots are great and cosy, much better than shoes/overshoes
    4. Keep core warm and the extremities are less likely to complain, pedal harder helps!

Castelli Motirolo jacket, Santini beHot tights. A Tempesta eVent jacket or a Gore Oxygen on top of that for when it rains hard. Gortex cycling boots and waterproof overshoes. Sealskin socks, gloves, hat and a Belgian buff. Hely Hansen Merino wool base layer. Shouldn't cost more than a grand if you look for special offers. This will cover most situations.

Or you can look at Planet X or the DHB brand on Wiggle. Alternatively Aldi.
Buy a reasonably cheap bit of kit. It you find it's not good enough for you (everyone varies with cold tolerance, general wimpiness) then look at upgrading. You'll always have the cheap one for moderately bad weather in spring then.

Depends on what kind of wares you're peddling really!
