    Moved to new thread.
Can you elaborate a bit on this?
    Did you speak to dealer?
How do you know car is from 2007?
What car brand and model is it?

Did the reg not give it away?

What is the reg number and what is on vehicles certificate of registration.

Don't go to a solicitor before you go back to the dealer to voice your concerns. It might just be a misunderstanding and the dealer will sort it out.

A car being five years older than you think it is would be very unusual. What did you buy, make model & trim, and how much did you pay for it?

Its clearly a non native English speaker, no need to be a douche about it, its pretty clear he bought a car a year ago he thought was 2012 but when he brought it to the NCT he was told it was 07.

I'm not so sure if this thread is for real or not but I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often.
There are alot of car buyers who wouldn't even know when specific car models came out never mind slight face lifts so knowing how greedy scammed are, if doing up a false cert for a car, it would be rather easy for them to knock a few years off too.

I would politely suggest that it's a case of poor English, as opposed to bad grammar. To that end I imagine the OP is not a "local", more likely a foreign national. Or perhaps he/she is dyslexic? Either way, I get the drift of the query without the need to correct the unfortunate posters lack of command of the language.

In his post in the Classic Cars thread he states the chassis number was altered and a main dealer confirmed it's a 2007 car with 2012 reg and VIN.

Could it not be the case that it was a car that the dealer had sitting on his lot since 2007 but only sold and registered it in 2012?
I ask because my uncle bought a 2007 toyota before but it was never registered until 2009 so he also got it cheaper too and the dealer informed him that is was a 2007 model toyota he was buying.

it sounds as if it is a Ringer or a Clone. A stolen (or otherwise) car using the id of a 2012 car.....

OP.go and confront the dealer and make it clear you want a refund (or I suppose , a replacement)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I've a feeling this type of dealer might not be around a year later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 Yuran

The main dealer confirm that num plate and vin num from 2012 but rest of the car is 2007.l can't say brand of the car and where did I got from for security reason.

Before wasting time, and money, with a solicitor or anything else make sure that the dealer you bought from is still trading and using the same name as when you bought from them. Even then if the dealer knowingly sold the car the chances of getting any joy are slim, as they know the system better than most.

If the car was 2012 you shouldn't have had to do an NCT this year. So why did you bring it for an NCT if it was only 3 years old?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭DakarVert

First NCT can be done up to 6 months early AFAIK.

So maybe not due until January or February and he's doing it early.

The likelyhood of taking any action is that you will have the car taken from you and will get no money for it. The odds of getting any money from the garage is slim and the Gardai aren't going to allow you to keep the car once they know its a ringer. Something to be said for doing nothing unfortunately :/

If it was mine, I would do abit of research on the actual car you have. Find out the true identity, possibly find out if that car is reported stolen or if it is currently tax or tested (in case there is another one knocking about ).
It is pretty much guaranteed to be a stolen car or a car that should be on a UK reg so it's not going to be a good situation however it works out.
Another possibility is that a garage took in a very heavily damaged 12 car and used more of the 07 car then they should have to put it back on the road.

Obviously the model etc is different, well in most car makers it changes every few years

you can't do nothing as obviously the insurance wont be valid.

It's so bizarre I wonder if it's on the level.

I can't think of a single car that had a model run from 2007 to 1012 without even a facelift. Sounds like OP didn't do his homework on this one, if the thread is even real.

The only car I can think of that didn't get a FL is the 159.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,866 ✭✭✭✭bear1

I can't understand why we can't be given at least the make/model? What does the reg plate say? 07-XX or 12-XX....?

I believe the interior was changed slightly but the outside not so much. The biggest changes came from the engines available.

Either way, if the thread is legit then the car is either a chop shop job or was sitting unregistered for years.

With the OP not giving us any details at all then it will be hard to come to any conclusion.
OP, is the car in KM or Miles? Is it a UK import? Did you buy this from a dealer working out of a shed or an official dealer with an office?
What does the log book say? If you can't give us any details at all I fail to see the point of the thread.
