Apply for job with company I previously interviewed with?

Looking for opinions please. I applied for a company speculative cv and got an interview at start of the year in an industry I'm trying to get into. The feedback at the time was that they thought I'd be more suitable for a trainee role and would keep my cv on file for few months. Now a trainee role has been advertised. Should I apply or was it a nice way of saying no thanks?

I certainly think you should apply.
You would only be taking them at their word.

Companies rarely give, "we like you but have nothing for you at the moment" feedback unless it's genuine.

Definitely reapply, don't assume they'll pick up the phone. Try go for a warm application - ring the HR person you dealt with previously and discuss it, don't just send in your CV.

Yes definitely. As Seamus says follow it up with a phone call. Do you have a name of person you were dealing with last time? Call up the hr and explain to them that mr\mrs x told you they would be interested in you should a trainee role become available.
