What happens if you constantly skip dole payments?

    Just curious.
I've been done with college for a few months ago and am unemployed. For the past 2-3 months I've been on the dole. I have a problem. I have social anxiety disorder (not diagnosed) but I have most of the characteristics (haven't had friends in the past 10 years, can't go shopping without embarrassment, poor eye contact, extremely stiff and awkward around people)

Anyway, I am was too embarrassed to collect my payment at the post office. I've been doing it for the past few months but have intentionally failed to collect 3 or 4 payments. Last week I was standing outside the post office, had to mentally prepare myself so I walked around for about an hour, but when push came to shove I just couldn't do it. My nerves were so bad I started shaking and almost crying. I really felt like I was being chased by a monster.

The times I have gone in, I felt like I was going to faint as the clerk counted the money. I am just so ashamed and I can't handle it. I've applied for countless jobs and I've been handing out CVs but nothing has come of it.

I don't know what to do. This is making me depressed. Every week I have a mini nervous breakdown when I have to go to the post office and I worry about it all week. It feels like the post office workers are judging me and I hate anybody seeing me walk to the post office because they'll know what I''m doing (the post office is in a shopping center)

If I tell the welfare officer this, would I be able to get the payments through my bank account?

It's worth a try and can't possibly do any harm. You should certainly inquire about it. Best of luck with it.

What's happened when you missed the other payments so far? Did the money carry over to the next week? Surprised they haven't contacted you if you've missed it a few times.

id think since your not diagnosed ya might be up against it,im not to sure if the dole do the bank payments anymore,so why not go see a doc, kill 2 birds with one stone, get some help and get to deal with your problem, and that way the dole also might be able to do something
    ps
i was the same for a few years, seeked help off the doc on which i was in total fear off,and now im like a brand new person, best of luck either way

Usually the payments will be lost until you can write a statement detailing why you failed to collect the money on the weeks that you did. Then if they accept that you'll get your old payments.

OP you need to seek help to overcome your anxiety issues. Best thing is to go to a doctor and get a referral.

Don't stress yourself out any longer and make an appointment.

If your this nervous/afraid collecting social welfare how are you going to do an interview/hold down a job.

OP I think you will need to speak to a healthcare professional to get help with this.

Usually a missed payment would go back to the office and would require you to go in and give an excuse as to why you missed it before you are reissued it. It happened to a friend where his claim was suspended and it took a few weeks to sort out before he got paid.

OP. jobseekers allowance / benefit is for exactly that, Jobseekers. If you cannot go into a post office to collect your weekly stipend then it stands to reason it would be hard for you to job seek. In that case you should be talking to a doctor and look into getting onto disability allowance if your condition is really so debilitating. That way you get paid into the bank and not have to face real people.

Really though OP, you should get help for your condition, I understand how hard it will be but it has to be done.

You would go to a GP and then if needed you would be referred to the needed specialist.

You are not mental OP, you just need a little help :)

OP you can get help for this very quickly
Help is there for you believe me
    Trust your GP
Everything that goes on between you and your GP is confidential
Ask your GP to complete a SW sick very for you and hand it in to your local SW office
Then go to see your CWO in the health centre
Ask in the SW office where and when you can meet the CWO
The CWO will be able to send you your €186 every week in a cheque every week and you won't have to go in the PO
OP your GP can help you with your anxiety issues
Loads of people suffer from it
Just look for help its out there

Reading your post is like reading something I would have written a year or so ago, the similarities are startling. My advice would be make an urgent appointment to see your GP as above posters have mentioned. He/She will most likely give you some anxiety meds and refer you to a counseling service in your local area. My advice would be to use both to help you get back on your feet. With regards to Welfare I wouldn't mention any of this until you have started some type of treatment or at least seen your doctor. You are currently receiving a payment that requires you to be actively seeking work to qualify for. This payment will be stopped immediately if you divulge your current situation to even the most understanding Case Worker. Illness benefit is a very difficult payment to get on and could take weeks. I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel and with help you will recover. You will be fine & even tho I don't know you, I can tell you are stronger than you think you are. All the very best of luck & remember to breathe.
