    Hi folks.

    first Cyc-lok station up and running in Pearse Station.

    Havent seen it myself but maybe someone in the area could have a look and send us a report. see below.

    Good afternoon,

    Thank you for taking the Cyc-Lok bicycle parking survey some time ago and thank you for providing an email address which we could contact you on.

    Our very first unit is now live in Pearse Station and we would love for you to call down and see it, try using it and let us know what you think. For now, you can use it for free using promocode START2015. You can book your locker using our app for iOS or Android, or even using a link to an online booking form on our website.

    A member of the team is frequently up at the unit as well so if you would like a demo and a quick walk around the unit let us know when you would be available and we will try to arrange someone to meet with you.

    Looking forward to talking to you soon.

    Regards,

    I saw it the other day, looks very neat and user friendly. I thought i'd taken photos of the whole thing but alas only the instruction board.
    There are spaces for 12 bikes, nice and secure looking, didn't see any open so not sure what you can fit in apart from the bike.

    Any idea on pricing? Brilliant idea.

    24h = 6€
    12h = 3€
    3h = 2€
    1h = 1€
    The pricing is fine for once off, but if you use it every day for commuting and you obviously need to use the 12h option, I think it's a bit expensive.

    Thats a lot for an everyday charge. Hopefully they will introduce a bulk buy deal.

    €3 per day (well working day 12 hour period ) seems quite reasonable to me for a safe and secure facility.

    You have to price in the convenience as well.

    If you used it every working day that would be getting on for €700/year! I guess it's not intended for daily use.

    Oh I agree it adds up but how much do people pay for the train? Car parking ? It can't be free as it costs money to run it.

    If you take into account that several bike take up the space of one car, per sq ft, ite much more expensive. Then if you factor in the cost of building a multi story car park, and manning it etc, you'll find it to be even more expensive.

    Then if you look at the average cost of a new car v bike you'll find that by year 3 you'll have bought a new bike as oppose to car.

    and Finally its a euro cheaper to park your car in the LUAS car parks

    or 2 euro cheaper to use Irish rail car parks.

    ^ well thats me put in my place!

    I suppose the pricing is aimed at people like me who look at the price and see some value. How many would carry out the review you just did and see that the 'price' itself might be reasonable but against other forms it is a pricey option.

    You should send that on to the guys who are running it. Hard to argue with your numbers

    Fantastic idea and I really hope it's very successful. 3 euro per day (12 hours) seems like a reasonible price. Maybe sharing a locker would help drive down the price? Even still, how much is your bike worth to you? If you don't mind the risk, save the 3 euro every day and put it towards a new bike when/if your bike is stolen ;). I'd personally prefer to spend the extra dosh and use the secure lockups.

    It only seems good value because we're scared ****less of getting our bikes nicked.

    Cyc-lok in Pearse St station.

    How do I get access to the cyc-lok locker in Pearse Station? Do I need to get a Dart ticket, or can I wander on to the platform without one? (I believe that the lockers are stationed on the platform). Has anyone used this facility on here?

    Used this yesterday, found it simple to use tbh. Looked at the website and phoned them to see are they rolling these out elsewhere as I'd bring my bike more often if I had somewhere safe to put it and my gear. They're going into Heuston station next and then in various places across the city. They also mentioned Limerick. They've private sites for businesses already in place down the country. Great idea, I'm asking work to look into accessing one of these for us, there's more of us cycling now and a dry bike with everything still on it is preferable to another theft! I can't get another bike-to-work one yet and couldn't afford to replace like with like when the inevitable theft from a standard pole, railing or rack happens!!:) Deserves to do well imo.
