NCT Fail Visual Retest Quesion

I failed my test on 2 silly things. I was very surprised as the Clutch was just barely working. Mentioned nothing about that.

I failed because of the "Windscreen Wipers and Washers - Unacceptable"

I fitted a new wiper on and its doing its job. The thing is my Jets are not working great. Only one is working well. I have tried all sorts to get them clear bar taking them out. But can't seem to get them going.
They are clearing the window very well though. One that is working.

I am wondering if I fail on this visual. Will I have to do the whole test again?
Also for a visual. Do I need to book it, or just arrive?

    Thanks

if it was only wiper and not link/arm replacement where movement could be detected then new wipers youd all need.window washer being gunged up most likely back end of needle to clear it out,if other one is working fine,or few euros from scrapyard to get another one.

Visual is just show up whenever you have time and hand in sheet, some guy will come out check over what needed to be fixed and get your ticket.no need for appointment etc.

think full retest would be if you didn't sort that out in a month.

Are both jets dispensing water on the windscreen where they should be dispensing washer fluid? If the wipers are both working and are both clearing the water from the windscreen, then the only other issue that might arise is if BOTH washer jets are not dispensing washer onto the screen. It is not unusual for one to be blocked or partially blocked. This can usually be fixed by unblocking it, using an airline, a single strand of steel wire from a wirebrush, or worst case scenario, replacing the jet nozzle. But the requirements that the NCT will have, are as follows:

    (1) Is washer solution/water being dispensed at an acceptable rate from BOTH nozzles, onto the windscreen surface?

    (2) Are BOTH the windscreen wipers working satisfactorily to clear fluid from the windscreen surface?

The wipers are clearing the windows. I changed them. Looking at my NCT report now again. I think it was only the wiper blade he was concerned with.

Out of the 4 jets. One is only working 100%. One is working well intermediately. The other 2 are very weak, not reaching the window. I have tried using a pin, also used compressed air and took of the tubing and blew that with compressed air to. Still the same.

I will give the NCT a go Saturday again. Thanks

When using compressed air to clear nozzles, make sure to blow into the nozzle, not the other way. You want to push whatever is blocking back into the tubing (that is disconnected in the other end).

The NCT manual isn't 100% clear on jets so I suppose it's up to tester at the time to say if they work ok or not.

Some washer tubing will have a little filter fitted, you might have to remove this/clean it/get new.
For me on an old car - I just cut it away as I had enough tubing to fit the jet anyway. This may/may not be something you should do..

Sounds like the wipers are grand and that the issue is the nozzles. You might be as well replacing all the jet nozzles just to get a line drawn under the issue and to get your cert. Before you do so though, check that you have a sufficient pressure at the hose coming up from the pump. I can't give you a value for what "sufficient pressure" may be, but you'd know if the pressure was a bit low if you were used to checking this. If the pressure at the pump is low, the pump may be a bit lazy, but 99% of the time it is just a nozzle blockage issue.

Just to follow up on this.
I managed to get one more jet working. So the one on the left was perfect. Still feck all coming from the drivers side.

But I done the NCT last Sunday. Turned out to be a breeze in the end. He checked to see both break lights working. I had failed on that as well
He went to to the wrong wiper. Lifted it a bit. Yeh passed. Never checked even with the jets if It was cleaning them. I had said I got new ones.

I was curious about my clutch, so I asked him about that. Turns out It is not part of the NCT Check. He even told me about having to push cars. And they passed. "crazy I know" is what he said to me.
