Losing TV3 etc reception on Panasonic HDD recorder DMR-HWT130

    Hi all,

I am based in Monaghan area . Recently acquired the above to hopefully replace Sky. When I first auto-tuned obtained all the Irish channels RTE1,2 etc TV3, 3e etc. RTE1 was coming in on 837. All UK channels received loud and clear.

However after a few days all Irish channels except RTE1 have been lost. Tried full auto-setup again several times and RTE1 now coming in on 801. RTE1 still good and UK channels all still loud and clear but the other Irish channels are lost / no signal. Tried manual tuning Channel 55 and the lost channels show up briefly but not strong enough to store.

Don't think aerial is the issue as another small TV set ( Saorview approved) receives the "lost" channels as well as the UK channels absolutely fine.

The Panasonic specs are Freeview+HD, Tuner system is DVB-T/DVB-T2, Country UK Channels UHF 21~68.

    Anybody any ideas ?

Have you tried the small TV at the same TV point as the Panasonic?

I have the Panasonic PVR Freeview HD T530 model and the tuner is excellent. BTW if RTE1 is coming through so should UTV Ireland and RTE 1+1.

Check that hdmi cable is not touching aerial lead at any point

The signal level may be different at the 2 TV points depending on cable length, splitters, initial signal level at the aerial etc.

Good idea - why didn't I think of that. Yes reception is fine on smaller TV at same aerial point , both with aerial directly connected and also with loop-back through the Panasonic. So that eliminates the aerial as the cause ?

@ digifriendly - thanks - so Panasonic Freeview technical setup is hopefully same on my box

@bridster007 - In the course of following Thurston's suggestion I moved things around a little ( used a different HDMI input to the TV, powered Skybox down in case it was interfering) and magically the channels returned loud and clear on a re-tune. Couldn't figure out why but probably because as you suggested the aerial and HDMI cables may have been touching and I unknowingly separated them . Never would have thought of checking that - thanks you're a genius. Presumably the HDMI cable was creating some sort of magnetic field that was interfering with the aerial signal ?
Would also explain why the initial setup some nights ago worked but later did not - as in between I switched the position of the Panasonic and Sky boxes probably inadvertently ending up with the cables touching.

Thanks guys, I will monitor for the next few days and hopefully all stays as is ( and was not some transient weather/atmospheric related problem

do an automatic scan and when the scan is running stop it this will blank everything.

if you know what muxes your saorview channels should be coming in on do a manual sacn on those channels just to test for quality

As a follow up to my original post our Panasonic DMR-HWT130 has been working very well but I notice recently that TV3 has become unwatchable - constant breakup . RTE2 can suffer from "no signal" and tonight RTE1 is breaking up a lot . All the Uk etc channels are fine .

The Panasonic is. Freeview HD box but as we are very near the border this is not a problem (Monaghan town) . Has anybody else to noticed in the border areas noticed a decreased quality on the Irish channels recently or had there been any change in transmission mode ?

I have checked the aerial and HDMI cables are not touching which was a problem initially.

The Panasonic is receiving insufficient signal for adequate Saorview reception due to an aerial or cabling or other issue.

Are you using 2 aerials, for Saorview and Freeview reception?
    Where are the aerials located?

@TheCush Thanks . I checked another tv which is not chanelled through the Panasonic Box and it is receiving the relevant channels well which seems to rule out the aerial (There are two aerials although both come through the same cable).

I double checked again around the box and the aerial in and out cables were very close - I removed the aerial out cable ( only needed for the rare occasion when the TV (it's internal setup although Freeview and HD ready is not Saorview ready) is viewed direct through the aerial rather than via HDMI cable from the Panasonic. Picture now coming in on full HD quality. Thanks for your help.

Incidentally, is there a recommended type of shielded cable to use for the connection from the aerial in/out ? Might help to avoid this sort of problem which seems to be confined to the Irish frequencies ?
