making two sliding doors which will be 13ft x 13ft. lengths of 2x2 box come in 24ft lengths. so I can cut a 13ft length and a 11ft from the full length. could I weld on a 2ft length onto each 11ft length in order to get the full 13ft length or do I need to buy full lengths and just have a lot of off cuts left over?

basically will a 11ft and a 2ft welded together do the job as well as a whole 13ft length

Yes as long as it's welded right

Use the 13's on the cross lengths and the 11's+2 on the verticals. Put some 1&1/2 insert into the 11+2 joints if you have it or a bit of angle just to be sure.
Just thinking, on a 13x13 door you'll need at least 1 cross member and ideally 1 verticals in the middle as well, so you could use up a lot of the 2ft 's there

A good weld should be stronger than the material you are welding.

Definitely ok to butt weld them..
Helps alot the more square you're cuts are too

Tack them up well and ensure they don't pull too much out of line when welding.
