Does the engine just keep swinging until the battery goes flat? could it be poor compression or poor injector pump?

Is the engine turning over quickly before jump leads ,if not you have a poor connection on one of the main leads probably a poor earth .After trying to start it check if any of the lead connections are hot (mind for burnt fingers ) Is the diesel tank below the engine level on that model ,if so diesel is getting back to the tank and air into the pipes ,assuming everything is good once started

There are only 2 lads that I know that can successfully fix all the problems with that particular model of tractor- Patterson and maguire

Do these yokes have the engine stop plunger that you pull out to stop the engine like on the 885xl's? If so you are supposed to pull the plunger out half way when starting as it acts like a choke then quickly push it back in when the engine fires you might need a wee rev on to stop it stalling too.

If these are different to the 885xl's then the above probably won't be applicable to ya.

Lay off the poteen and fit a non return or find the source of the problem with your tractor.
