Replacing my dish

It was an elliptically shaped dish (80 cm by 60 cm) .

By the looks of things the dishes for sale now are circular .

Is there an advantage to the oval shape I had or does the circular one work as well?

Should I go for the 80 cm or will the 60cm dish be every bit as good ?

I'm pretty sure the Sky-type dishes being sold are still elliptical, example, with the zone 2 version being roughly 80 x 60.

A 'circular' 60cm would do fine in its place, & would give you a choice of better quality products.

Sky dishes are a false economy. Buy a quality dish, fit and forget for a long time. You'll save money in the long term.
Triax TD64 will be plenty for Astra 2 (Sky & Freesat)

Weird I've had one for ten years.its perfect.

30 euro says its not a false economy

Yeah, you have one of the older dishes, they last a bit longer, but I've replaced loads of them that literally rotted away, and all but fell off the wall. The newer ones are even flimsier and rust in no time.
    You pays your money....just sayin.
Perhaps the air is a little more salty up here, but the arm usually disintegrates where it passes through the dish face,(which itself rusts very quickly) and the nuts on the U bands behind the dish are impossible to remove after a couple of years unless they are heavily greased on installation, they just shear the U-band.
The wall brackets rot away......hmmmm what else?

I've yet to see a rotted Triax, however long it's been up.

@Excollier mate, can you recommend me a motorised dish setup. Size number of lnbs etc. Ditching Sky setup next year.
I have an Italian missus and Italian children, so looking for something to get Saorsat, & freesat, and Italian channels also (hotbird I believe) at a mimium. Interested in motorised dish to expand channels available in the future.

Will probably go crazy and have a Vu+ Solo 4K stb next year to hook it all up to

    Cheers

I would never recommend a motorised dish for normal family use, it is far more suited to hobbyists. With a motorised system you can only watch/record whichever satellite group the dish is pointing to at any one moment. Whereas with a multi-LNB setup you can watch/record from several groups at once. E.G watch something on 28° while recording something on 13°. Also be aware that Saorsat only carries the RTÉ channels, no TV3, 3e etc.

Yes, I agree. Multifeed every time.

To use Multifeed do I need a special dish? Or just a new LNB ?

It is too late as I have already ordered a Sky Mini Dish now -but I am still curious.

Fair point. Yes that sounds a better solution so, would I be correct to imagine so Id need a large dish (1m) with two different lnb's so, pointing at different angles, one for Astra2 and one for Hotbird. Yes was aware of no TV3 etc over saorsat v saorview, but if I could avoid not adding an aerial to the house, when 1 sat would be grand, Id go with that option.

I use a multi-focus dish which is slightly wider than a normal sky dish (about 85cm) to give a better spread of angles. There are 4 LNBs, 3 normal Ku quads and a dual Ka for SaorSat on 9. These are connected to 4 four-way DISECQ switches feeding 2 receivers. It sounds more complex than it actually is.
I've heard of guys using normal Sky dishes for 28, 19 and 13 but it doesn't give you much spare signal to allow for rain fade. I have only had rain fade twice in the last 12 months. I lost a few channels from 28 for a few minutes at the height of "Desmond".
