Hey guys, I'm going for my firearms license for a .22 marlin and i was wonder if someone could point in the right direction to get land owner permission to hunt on their land. Ive character refs off my old LT and Sargent from the RDF for the license but still need land owner permission. I'm living in cork but wouldn't mind traveling a bit.

Get out and knock on a few doors man, we all have to do it! Should pick up some permission easy enough

Suggest you bring evidence of personal insurance with you, if you go ringing door bells btw, always best to be able to offer it before it's even asked for. :)

    Thanks,

    G.

i was looking in to the insurance end of it, would be just the normal life insurance or is there a specific crowd that do insurance for this kind of thing.

Check out both Countryside Alliance and also NARGC.

From memory, NARGC used to only be available through clubs.

Joining a club might be a good move (particularly if you can get into a local hunting club given you want to hunt, although easier said than done sometimes), if you want to meet people with a common interest etc. Target shooting clubs can also be good in terms of meeting people, learning and getting a bit of help when needed (oh yea and thats before you consider possible target shooting and competitions).

    Thanks,

    G.

    Hi,
Sorry to interject but quick question.
The two references I used for my license have given me permission to shoot/hunt on their land. Do I need to submit any other forms to the guards?
Or can I turn up on their land and shoot? I can get written permission if required but not sure if I need to update the license.

    Cheers

A couple of letters from them saying that they x give you y permission to hunt and shoot on their land at xyx which covers x acres is needed. The references are all to do with you not being a, now whats the PC term......a NUT JOB.

Contact the NARGC for a list of clubs in your area.

Your far better off getting permission from a few farmers, but get your insurance through the countryside alliance or the IFA. You could go down the gun club route but they are primarily into game shooting. You would have to be living in the area and known to members of the club before they take you on. They don't just leave anybody into the clubs, shooting is a fairly selfish pastime as you will find out.
