Hi. I have another thread here, but it's going a bit long and veering abit OT, as it was pre OP. It's there for reference though.

I had all the usual symptoms of a disc herniation since the summer of last year. So had surgery on the 25th and had it done privately at the SSC under Michael Kelleher. There was a a tear in the dural wall during surgery, which was closed up and required additional bed rest to allow it to heal. I was discharged on the 27th after being mobilised and with strict instructions to bed rest for 3 more days. I only got up for the toilet and followed the instructions given.

I've been getting as much walking done as I feel I am able to. I am being careful with posture, sitting, getting up and down, climbing stairs, carrying anything. For the most part, I felt I was doing great and then yesterday, I had been sitting on a chair in the kitchen (just on the edge, keeping my back straight) for about 5 minutes. When I attempted to stand, halfway into the movement I felt the strongest pain shoot down from the site of the surgery (just to the left of the wound) all the way down to my left calf. At that moment, I thought i had reherniated, but the pain quickly subsided and I was able to stand after a second attempt and I carried on. This was at maybe 1pm and I carried on until about 7, because my back and legs felt weaker since the episode. I retreated to bed.

Today, I plan to mostly bed rest, as I figure I might have been over doing it. In all honesty, i'm not sure, because i'm really not doing much at all, other than sitting and standing and not for periods longer than 20-30 minutes at a time. Having got up to use the toilet, my back is still weaker than before the episode and certain movements are causing the odd pain in the left buttock, so I am trying to be careful and positive.

So this thread is to ask for others about their post op experience, most especially the first 2 weeks. Anything similar to what i have experienced? Thanks all.
