I'll be returning to the road soon after an absence of about 7 years. I've got about 2.5 years of previous experience with no claims or points but since that was a few years back, I'm told that it won't count towards a NCB and I accept that.

I'm looking at cars in the 1.4 range, about 10 years old 3 - 3.5k, nothing flash. Colt, Jazz, Polo and so on.

Now I'm 38 and the first quote I got shocked me, it was about 1,350 euro. Then I carried on searching and it only got worse, 2.5k and even over 3k, i.e. more than the value of the car

One quote from Zurich came in at 643 but I'm not convinced about the legitimacy of it.

Can any of you offer me some advice as to what to do? I think these online quotes don't fully take into account my past experience, would I get cheaper quotes by calling around? Does it matter if you contact the insurer directly rather than go through the comparison website?

I've heard that going through an old fashioned broker can work well but how do I find a good one? Sure there are plenty around but if any of you can recommend one that would be great.

Try a broker, but €1350 seems reasonable.
