So my mate moved into a new place and he says the rings on the hob doesn't heat up properly for boiling/frying.

I was over and took a snap in case someone knows this "Powerpoint" model.

1 - does rings die as they get older?
2 - since markings are gone with age we're not sure he is putting the knobs in right position.

what you describe is the most common fault with solid plates, they have a number of individual circuits and if one or more of these go faulty they cannot get up full heat, if three of them are faulty it would be more economical to get a new hob
