Is it true that it's almost impossible to get insured on a car over ten years old as a young driver?

If so this is ridiculous, as the costs for young drivers are too high as they are.

    I'm looking at buying an 04 / 05 Bora 1.9

With an engine that size you'd want deep pockets .

He's talking about what they'll charge you on a 1.9.

It will have more to do with engine size than the age of the car

He's not talking about fuel efficiency. He's talking about insurance premium on a "big" engine

Also one of the higher profiled cars by insurance companies - VW, Bora, TDi - young lads love them and insurance love to load premiums on them.

My son was insured on a 1.8 last year when he was 19, €1600 in his own name. It's gone to almost €1900 this year with no claims, penalty points etc.

I got a quote of €2500 on a '04 Audi A3 1.9TDI when I was going for my first policy (1 year named experience, full licence only a couple of months). I was getting quotes of between €3000 - €5500 before that.

That's your answer OP right there.

because of the 'felt spec' craze at the moment OP , almost anything VW and diesel has a high loading for drivers under 30, Golf GT TDI, A4's, Boras, Jettas and Passats , all loaded.

My advice to anyone under 25 who wants to buy a car. If you've seen one of them modified and driving round the town at night full of lads, don't buy one of those.
