Have 300kg heifers I'm hoping to have at bulling weight for mid-April/early May. From this week thats working out at 130-140 days which requires a weight gain of 0.8-0.9kg/day to get them to 400/420kg. They are getting good silage and thinkin of starting them on a 17% barley/soya mix.

Is this weight gain achievable over the winter?

Will be bulling them with easy calving Lim Bulls like EBY and KJB so calving shouldn't be an issue for them

what age are they . maturity plays a big role in getting them bulling imo. if you were to let them out earlier would compensatory growth help them

Get them out early and keep them tipping along over the winter with a high protein meal, they'll be doing well to hit 420 but once over the 380 kg it wouldn't worry me.one of my biggest cows that I had at 820 kg at three year old was 360 kg when she was bulled.

Have always found that once they go in calf they thrive on regardless if not better
