Incident: Jetstar A320 at Brisbane on Oct 19th 2015, too many passengers on board
By Simon Hradecky, created Thursday, Dec 3rd 2015 16:26Z, last updated Thursday, Dec 3rd 2015 16:26Z
A Jetstar Airbus A320-200, registration VH-VQG performing flight JQ-569 from Brisbane,QL to Melbourne,VI (Australia), was preparing for departure from Brisbane when the flight crew was advised there was a discrepancy at the passenger check in and 12 more passengers were to board the aircraft. Following departure the flight crew requested cabin crew to count the passengers on board, the count showed 16 more passengers on board than listed on the passenger manifest and load sheet increasing the aircraft's computed mass by 1,328kg. The flight crew recomputed their landing performance prior to initiating the descent into Melbourne and continued for a safe landing.

On Dec 3rd 2015 Australia's TSB rated the occurrence a serious incident, together with another loading error,
see Incident: Jetstar A321 at Melbourne on Oct 29th 2015, difficulty to rotate aircraft for takeoff , and opened an investigation estimated to conclude by October 2016.

I presume the 1328Kg extra mass was from passenger luggage and not the passengers themselves? Just seems like a very exact number to come up with for 16 extra passengers.

    83kg of luggage each?

I say it's the average weight of an auzzie male x 16.

as it's an internal flight there may be different arrangements for travelling.

Perhaps it is possible to arrive and get on a flight quite late.

However, people not being on the manifest is a serious issue alright

1328/16 = a nice round 83kg - I assume they calculated based on a 'standard person' (usual 60 kg) and assumed that those people had maxed out their luggage allowances?

Standard pax masses we use are:
    Male 88kg
    Female 70kg
    Child 35kg

If the breakdown of pax is not known then Standard mass of 84kg is used.

All the above include hand luggage.
