Would there be much of a saving made in waiting until the end of January to buy a second hand car valued around the €9000 price range or buying before christmas

I would think you'll have more choice in the new year as people trade in.

    You'll pay the same though.

I would think buy now as they will want to make room for all the traded in stock coming in January.

Thanks for the replys. One more thing and you will probably say how long is a piece of string but roughly how much should you try and bargain of the listed price of a car. If a car was listed at €9,500 do you think for straight cash deal you would get if for €9000 or it depends on if the dealer or private seller has the discount already build into the price and wont discount any further.

I'm going to look at a car tomorrow listed for 9900 Euro, If I like it, I'm going to offer them 9000 Euro cash. which I'll have in an envelope in my pocket.

Dealers generally drop the prices of their used cars in November in order to shift them and make room for trade-ins come January. Despite the popular perception prices of used cars do not magically drop on January 1st.

Did not see much of a drop this November.
Market is buoyant for some cars, but others shall sit and be discounted later in January.
Can't sell a 2015 for the same price as a 2016 so prices for all years have to shuffle down - and there's an element of musical chairs to it.

Depends on what the car is costing and what it should realise if you the OP don't buy it. For example, I've a polo I've dropped from 9495 to 9295 to 8995. I was willing to get back 9000 for it from word go, but doubt I'll need to drop it again, so I def wouldn't panic sell it at say 8250. But having the money (or enough for a deposit) with you will get you the best price.

Ps legit dealers don't like cash. It costs too much to lodge. Pay by SEPA

A lot of cars I've had my eye on have dropped in price in last 2-4 weeks as posters have said.

Question is whether I should go to hassle and buy this week to avoid the madness of the first few weeks of Jan 16.

Am i right in saying the 1st wave of PCP cars are being returned in Jan Feb???

If so then there may be a good selection of used cars available.

Good selection but likely to take 3+ months to see further price drops.

My issue is the level of service and interest the dealer will have given it's new car season.

Yes was thinking that myself. 2012 was the first year they really kicked in so probably a flood of 2012's onto the market in the new year?

Would it not be 2013 models then (3 years - paying in 2013,2014, 2015) - back for more PCP 2016.

There has been an explosion of cars onto the market in the last 3 to 4 weeks. If you are buying privately, I'd buy now. Its a week before Christmas, people will value the cash over the holidays or want the cash ready to rock in January. Psychologically it puts you in a very good position as a buyer and on the back foot as a seller as the market is saturated.
