Apologies if this is in the wrong place..

I am currently in Zurich and will be moving back to Ireland in the new year. I'm looking for a van hire company that will let me use their vehicles outside of Ireland so I can do this move myself. Does anyone have any experience of such a company - if one exists?
    Thanks in advance.

I think that's going to be difficult. Most rental companies wont allow you to leave the country. If you do take the van out of Ireland you probably wont be insured. It would also be advisable to take out AA European breakdown assistance. If the van breaks down, It will up to you to get it back to Ireland.

Try these guys, www.moveandparcel.eu. they'll ship anything, and quite reasonable.

Enterprise( I think) in ikea Belfast used to hire vans and let you drive across the border.

I think any insurance policy has to give you some cover abroad. There are roads in the 26 couties you can't get to without entering&leaving the uk

I've found companies to let me take their vehicle but on my insurance. Non-starter as I don't have a policy right now. I might just sell everything here and buy again at home

Why not just hire a regular shipping company to move your stuff, like everyone else does.

That's probably what I'll end up doing. I was just trying to save some money as time is not an issue. Thanks for your helpful post..

I hired out a van to move stuff from the UK off Enterprise. It didn't work out any cheaper than a removal firm was quoting once you added in the extra charges for taking it out of the state (and that was after winning an argument after they tried to charge more than the web reservation as the web was quoting at the wrong VAT rate or something!). That's before fuel.

I had to do sorting out over there too, which is the main reason I stuck it out, but in hindsight I would've done an extra weekend visit for the sorting, and just been there for collection by the removal company and saved myself the bother.
