This is a mythology created by the Media and Politicians that Irish people are 'passionate' about sport. We are not.

Most Irish people do not care about sport, let alone are passionate about it.

The ones who do care about sport are just big TV event junkies and support nothing except something they are vaguely connected to that is winning or in a final.

all the other shyte from Galway Races, Cheltenham, etc etc etc are just giant pubs.

Jimmy McGee is a dry shyte too and not a 'National Treasure' - if he was in the local pub talking like that everyone would be doing anything in order to not make eye contact with him for fear he starts talking about Ronnie Delaney.

There are a load of 'Macs' and 'Scousers' who would disagree.

I have no interest in watching sports, does absolutely nothing for me. Ireland would be in the World Cup Finals, and it wouldn't matter a damn to me. Much prefer playing video games.

The only sport I watch is snooker. I'd never play it (way too physical for me), but I find it very soothing.

But if no one really likes sport then why do the viewership figures say that so many watch it, compainies advertise during it ....and why are the pubs showing it wall to wall?

Could you post the statistics from the detailed surveying you did of the irish population please?

It's not hard to be a national treasure - you just need to be old as f*ck and still working. My microwave is a national treasure if Jimmy Magee is.

Take one look at Croke Park on match day (you don't even need to go in) and see how idiotic the thread title is then.

Ah, Saturday afternoons, Des Lynam and Dickie Davis doing impersonations of each other on the telly, Big Daddy fighting Giant Haystacks, there's the bowls, and there's the snooker, and the 3.30 from Wincanton.

    Simpler, happier times. :)

Is this just a statement, or is there something in there that you would like to discuss?

Those fans couldn't be bothered watching their teams through the winter.

Sort of means the thread title is pretty accurate.

You've obviously never been to a club match. Let alone the amount of people playing sports of all types with (and without) club affliction.

    It's a conspiracy.

Here's a list of just the inter-county attendances All Ireland number of 2015. 1,345,544. Not bad. Of course there's less at the League games but still a fair few and the numerous club and local competitions nationwide. Maybe add in the viewing figures too, or is that enough for ya?

Now add in FAI, rugby etc etc. Not to mention viewing figures for the big international stuff (and the Premier League).
