My in laws have a holiday home in West Clare that has a Sky box and an old RTE aerial, which is now of no use.
They think paying €30 per month for Sky is a waste when the house is onply used for 3 months but they asked me for the best options for a holiday home which would be easy to use and be cost effective.

The Sky box has to be replaced every three years due to corrosion.

    Any ideas please?

    Really?

There are plenty of options but the best one is a new aerial & cheap combo box. Once off payment. FTA and Saorview free thereafter.

Replace the sky dish with a fibreglass dish which will last 10+ years or an aluminum dish by either Triax or Inverto for 5+ yrs possibly more.

Bring your sky box with you when you go on hols or put up a terrestrial aerial and install either a fta combo box or if the tv there is already Saorview ready a freesat box is best for the bbcs and ch4 etc..

A list of all fta channels on sat is available here.
