    Hi all,

Have a friend looking to get me a commercial vehicle to take the dog/bike at weekends. Will also be my main transport.

The options he came up with are:

    2009 Citroen Berlingo 1.6hdi L1
    105,000 miles
    Irish Van
    Taxed and doed
    5,200

    2006 Nissan X-trail Commercial 2.2 diesel
    85,000 miles
    Sat-Nav model
    5,000

    Both in very good condition.

Nissan costs 200 more to insure

    Anybody have any opinions?

There's so much middle ground between those two options.
I think you should figure out what you want/need and go from there rather than picking something from a very limited pool.

Your friend must have little or none motoring knowledge, they are two rubbish recommendations.

If you're keen on a small van, stretch for a caddy. Even an Sdi. Trust me.

Speaking from the Ford end of that 1.6 hdi, they're nothing but trouble.

Decided to go with the Berlingo. Much better maintained than the Nissan. Shame as the x-trail had great levels of kit and loads of grunt but engine sounded stretched, brakes were wooly and just generally had a bad feeling from it.

Let's hope the engine issues others have had with the HDI engine doesn't surface with this as it has been well serviced with the best of oil.
