Hey, I have my 24 year old sister for Christmas this year, and she is looking for a good mascara and nude lipstick. I'm not into make up myself so I don't really know what kind to get her. Does anyone have any idea of what brand to get her, I'm on a budget but if its great quality then I will get it for her. Thanks!

For lipsticks either Mac (BTs) or Lipstick Queen (Space NK) are good options but not cheap! For mascara my favourite is Max Factor false lash effect - find it much better than other 'premium' brands

Ditto the above poster re the mac lipsticks and for a great quality mascara on a budget I highly highly recommend Bourjois One Second Ultra black mascara from boots!

Benefit is another good mid price range. Perhaps a voucher for Mac, Boots or Debenhams so she can pick out the makeup she wants for herself?

Agree about the voucher, OP. Let her pick the right one.

On a side note, MAC lipsticks get great reviews and if I was to recommend a mascara, I'd actually recommend Maybelline Illegal Lengths.
It's only €12 but it's amazing at giving you really long, dark dramatic lashes.

A good nude lipstick would be MAC Brave, it suits most people.

Mascara might be a different story - I swear by Benefit and Maybeline mascaras but everyone has their favourites.

Yes how could I forget Rimmel - get the Kate Moss nude in number 45, I have it and it's a lovely nude. Rimmel probably also do up gift sets. Or if you go to a local independent pharmacy which stocks this make up, they can be good to put a little gift set together for you.

For the lipstick its a good idea to google image pics of the lipstick colour on different skin tones, some will look really different depending on how light/dark you are.

Some nudes can end up looking quite brown on paler skin tones , I know when I have no tan on Mac's Velvet Teddy is much browner on than during the summer when I'm all bronzed.

Loreal also have some nice nudes but make sure to smell them first, not everyone likes the smell, very very perfumed! I have JLos nude and its a stunning colour but the smell makes me gag :o

Nude lipsticks are trickier to match than foundation shades, it might be better to go for a nude gloss or a subtle pink colour, I still haven't found a nude that suits me since my last perfect shade was discontinued 4 years ago

As for mascara, I really like benefit roller lash, I've short lashes and it gives my eyes very good definition

For mascara it may not be in your budget (€30) but the YSL shocking mascara is the best I've ever used (and I've tried them all) and I don't know anyone who doesn't like it. It's amazing! May be nice as a treat. Mac do the best selection of nude lipsticks in my opinion
