What do you racers on here go for when it comes to crankset? Dura Ace Crankset to me looks nice. What do you like?

the ratio of the crankset is a lot more important than what it looks like , ie 52/36 or 53/39

One of the Campagnolo Carbon cranks. Beautiful. I have a Centaur Carbon on mine. Matched with aftermarket upgraded bearings and they look and turn fantastic.

If price is a factor and you want good performance, get an ultegra semi-compact (52/36).

from my own observation, the preferred choice in the Irish peloton is Ultegra.

    Probably worth a poll

I like the way the question is directed to racers, thus implicitly discounting aesthetics - the only aspect of crankset choice on which anyone could reasonably express a strong opinion.

If you're getting shelled out the back in March you won't care what your crankset looks like.

    Looks don't factor in racing!

I wouldn't decide on a chainset in isolation - so it depends on the groupset that I am using

Remember cycling in France and talking to the bike shop owner, he said in broken English " you don't buy durace you only use it when you're good enough to be signed, then someone else is buying it" not worth the extra crash

Yes I have directed it towards racers. Is that ok?

Well it's a bit like asking racers what sort of stem or seatpost they prefer, to which the answer is probably "one that doesn't snap". :)

Dura ace is surely better. Just like ultegra is over 105.

So why ask in the first place?

Do you want the lightest, stiffest crankset for racing in Ireland?

I can offer a suggestion as to what Crankset NOT to buy: basically, anything that uses the Powertorque system-Campag Athena and one or two of the lower Campag groups I believe. Absolute nightmare to do maintenance on.

There is approx 60g difference in weight between the Ultegra and Duraace chainset - you will not be able to notice this and any gains you would get would be minimal- if you have the cash and want to bling out the bike go for DA. I wouldnt try to justify the purchase on the basis of a DA vs Ultegra crankset on the basis of increased performance
