The 520 is hard to beat. It doesn't have mapping (like the edge 1000 for example) but you can upload local area maps to it and would have more than enough if you wanted navigation in unfamiliar areas. You can also of course map out a route beforehand and upload ot the device. Apart from Navigtion, it's got this awesome, amazing thing where you can use it to control an ANT+ FEC smart trainer. My Taxc vortex arrived yesterday and I can now use my Edge 520 to control it. You can use any spin you've done in the past, stick it on the 520 and it will adjust trainer resistance according to the route-really cool, especially if for example you were targeting a race not close to home and wanted to do intervals based on the actual course. It has Glonass as well as GPS, so satellite acquisition is quick and stable. Strava live segments is fun, it's nice to finally know where segments start and finish. There's also live tracking, so if you're out for a spin on your own, you can share your progress with your other half (or whoever). Battery life is not quite as good as the edge 500 (20 hours, 15 for the 520), but that's not an issue unless you're audaxing, in which case you'd want a batter pack anyway. Price wise, there are really good deals on it atm-no problem getting the basic head unit for well under €300, with bundles at a bit over €300-check German sites for best prices, though in fairness I've also seen it on Wiggle for about €270 with free delivery to Ireland.
