My bike was stolen a few days ago and I need to get a replacement. The bike was about 18 years old and was surprised why anyone would want to steal it. Anyway, I cycle about 4km to work every morning and the same trip home so 8km per day. Can anyone suggest a bike or what type of price range I should be aiming for. Planning on buying new with bike to work scheme.

Sorry to hear your bike was stolen. I was in a similar place to you a few years back in terms of just using the bike to get to work and back but I got a Trek 7.1 on donedeal and I have to say I use it for a lot more than just going to work. I rarely go anywhere now not on the bike. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 7.5fx next year. I've been to Hollingsworth to check it out and it's slick. A racer set up with a flat bar. I'm also going to check out the boardman bikes in Halfords. A colleague in work has one and it seems great. Price range they are both around 1000 but maybe check adverts or donedeal and you'll find one for less. Good luck with the search.

Similar to your situation, Tickers, I bought a s/h Boardman Comp to replace a stolen bike.
It's a great bike, I'm very happy with it.
