I've just setup a local school parents council Facebook page (where only the administrator can post) and want to make sure those who like the page will get new posts, mainly related to fundraising for the school, in their news feed.

Will this automatically happen when they like the page or do they need to do anything else like adding the page to their favourites or something like that?

No, it will show up automatically.

When you post something you can also choose audience.

The way Facebook "decides" who sees what is constantly changing.
If you really need to be 100% sure that people see everything you'd need to get them to subscribe to the page's notifications

The whole point of liking a page is to get updates.
They can then choose to turn notifications off.

Yes, but the OP wanted to be sure that everyone who liked the page saw them, which won't happen by default.

And that's today's rule. It may change tomorrow, with no warning.

Any chance of a screenshot on the easiest way for them to do this?
