FYI I received an email today saying Rathgar test Centre is closing. Thats a bit of a surprise and seems fairly short notice!!!! :D:D

    From: Driving Test <Dtesting@rsa.ie>
Date: Tue, Dec 1, 2015 at 2:49 PM
Subject: Notice from the Road Safety Authority re the closure of Rathgar driving test centre
    To:

    Dear driving test applicant,

Our records show that you have applied for a driving test at the Rathgar test centre. I wish to inform you that the Rathgar test centre is closing from 15 January 2016. This closure is outside the control of the RSA. We are currently looking at other suitable locations in the longer term, but in the immediate term, we are opening a test centre in Dun Laoghaire from the Rochestown Lodge Hotel and Spa, Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

The closure of Rathgar test centre will affect some driving test applicants. The following explains the position for anyone who currently has a driving test application submitted for the Rathgar test centre.

If you already have a test scheduled at the Rathgar test centre – your currently scheduled test will not be affected and your test will proceed as normal in Rathgar unless you cancel it. If you cancel your test, and are due a further appointment, there is no guarantee that a further test can be scheduled for you at the Rathgar test centre, as we currently have a full test schedule in place up until the closure date. If you do cancel and we cannot accommodate the scheduling of a further test in Rathgar, your further test will be scheduled in Dun Laoghaire. However, if you wish to have your next test conducted at any other of our test centres (e.g. Tallaght), you may inform us by emailing drivingtest@rsa.ie or ringing us on 1890 40 60 40 to inform us. As the test centre in Dun Laoghaire will only accommodate category B (car/small van) tests, any other non-category B test categories that haven’t been tested in Rathgar by the closure date will be moved to a test centre other than Dun Laoghaire. This will be done in consultation with each applicant affected.

If you have an application with us for a test at the Rathgar test centre and are waiting to receive your test appointment – it is very likely that your test will be scheduled at the new location in Dun Laoghaire. If, however, you wish to have your test conducted at any other of our test centres (e.g. Tallaght), you may inform us by emailing drivingtest@rsa.ie or ringing us on 1890 40 60 40 to inform us.

Please note that if you are a first learner permit holder, you must have held your learner permit for a period of six months and must have undergone your 12 EDT lessons and have these uploaded to us by your ADI before a driving test can be scheduled for you. If this results in your test being scheduled after 15 January 2016, your test will be scheduled in Dun Laoghaire unless otherwise requested by you.

The RSA recognises that the closure of the Rathgar test centre will cause inconvenience to any test applicants affected. Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) operating in the region have been informed of the closure. If you are currently engaging with the assistance of an ADI, and your test is likely to be in Dun Laoghaire, you may wish to make contact with your ADI to discuss this change.

The RSA regrets any inconvenience the closure will cause, and will work with applicants and ADIs in order to minimise this as much as possible. The cooperation of test applicants and ADIs is greatly appreciated.

    Yours sincerely,

    Driver Testing Section

Harsh on anyone who has been prepping for Rathgar route for a while, clearly you should be able to drive anywhere but the confidence from knowing the route variations will be lost.

Rochestown Ave isn't the worst road to be starting/finishing your test on though, some awkward enough roundabouts not too far away but could be worse.

Yeah overall is probably a good move in terms of the road layout, but there'd be quite a few people doing there 2 or third test at Rathgar and practicing the route and had done pre-tests there.

Based on this blog post, driving instructors will have know about this since mid October.
It also says Crumlin will end up being the where the test centre stays from mid 2016.
