The procedure for getting rid of the old car

The old car broke down for the last time. As the estimated cost of repairs was way too much compared to the value of the car, I got myself another one. The owner of the garage I use asked me for the old car, with the intention of using it for parts. I gave him the car and the certificate and he told me that he will handle the ownership transfer. This happened around 12-13 November. The change in registration still doesn't register when I query Motortax.ie:

    Change Of Vehicle Ownership
No Changes notified in the last 3 months
    Vehicle Registration Certificate
No Vehicle Registration Certificate issued in the last 3 months

Is there anything I can/should do in this case? I don't worry much about the car being used, as it could barely move without stalling the engine. However I would be a lot more relieved to have it off my name when I don't own it practically.

Contact the Garage and ask him to sort it out.
If he doesn't you can apply for a replacement log book (as it's still in your name). You can then fill that in with the change of ownership details and send it off yourself.....which is really what you should have done to begin with.

I think you are also supposed to fill out form RF105 (NOTIFICATION OF TRANSFER OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP TO A MOTOR DEALER) as well as sending in the log book? Assuming you bought the replacement car from the garage that is.
