Home help/carer options?

    Hi all,

    Not sure if this is the right forum (Mods please move if not) but here goes:

    I want to find out what services are available generally (via the HSE or privately) for an elderly person living alone. Do any such things exist in middle Ireland rural areas (5-6 miles from Roscommon town). Do the HSE even provide any such care/services? It would only be for a peace of mind call 2-3 times a week maybe. She is non-infirm, mobile and still drives (in daylight and fine weather) so it would be partly a social visit also as well as a kinda educated eye on someone who might need assistance in the future.

    I know about the likes of www.bluebirdcare.ie or www.rhshomecare.ie who provide this kind of service (I think?).

    Has anyone got any first hand info or further resources that I could look into?

    Speak to your local public health nurse who'll be based at you local HSE public health centre.

    They're helpful in terms of assessing a persons needs but can also give you a sense of both public and private options. They'll also be able to give info on local day centres which might also be a helpful additional option.
