Apologies if I’m posting this in the wrong section, but I thought Id have a go here and see what info I get back.

My 2005 Scenic has had 1 problem too many (electric hand brake and now a slipped clutch) and is too costly to fix and from what I’ve heard since buying it the problems get worse.

So I’m looking for a new car and have zero cash besides what I could get on trading the banger in. looking at the finance route (roughly between 4k and 6k). Have applied to one or 2 places and waiting to hear back, but was wondering if anyone on here had any experiences getting car finance in similar fashion and where you felt was the best place to go, ie a bank, finance company, credit union?

Also don’t want to get stuck with another dud so any recommendations or tips are welcome. Was looking at a 2006 ford focus with 100km on the clock myself.

credit union is the best place to get it if you can.

For that amount you would probably be bat off going to your bank or credit Union for a personal loan. If you have a trusted mechanic I would discuss with him what you are thinking of buying. They can give some handy info and also have them look over the car before you pull the trigger

You should be able to get a 08 car for that price too. Especially with them being another year older in just a few weeks. Like, here's a 09 for just above your budget http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/ford/focus/used-2009-ford-focus-style-1-6-5s-kerry-fpa-201214438903452790

Nice but just above my budget, dont want to strectch too much past 6,000. Also in Dublin so a trip to Kerry would be a no-no.

But its a smashing car by the looks of it

Car loan with my CU about 8%.

Personal loan with BOI 7.5% if you've current a/c with them.

I'd still prob favour the 0.5% premium for going with credit union as repayment more flexible.

You would need to prove to the Credit Union that you are a regular saver but you probably have a better chance with them than the banks.
