How to claim emergency tax back?

I was getting BTEA most of the year but job seekers during the summer.
I signed off for 6 weeks when I found some work in college.
I did not give a P45 when starting this work and paid emergency tax.
I did not get a P45 when I finished the work and requested one.
    I got the P45.
I am working again for 5 days running up to Xmas. I will give that employer my P45.
I am wondering what should I do to claim back the emergency tax I paid in the summer and to not pay more emergency tax for the 5 days I work before Christmas?

Firstly get the new employers company registered number and ring revenue and ask for your tax credits to be assigned to the new job. That should take care of the tax for the new job at least. You might be put on a week 1 basis so you wouldn't get back the emergency tax at this point. If this happens, request a balancing statement after the new tax year starts and your whole year tax situation will be reviewed and any over paid tax refunded.

Any idea how the tax would be refunded. Just that I will only be working for one week. The tax will not be able to be paid through a job as I won't have one.

Would it be on my last pay slip from them, does it look like a PPS number?

I found this on last years payslip.

Might be handiest to wait till the end of this year. That way, all your earnings for 15 are complete and you can request the balancing statement then.

I used the revenue.ie site and emailed my query, they got back within two days. So I'm all sorted, or will be.

On a similar type of problem. I was out of work for a couple of months and got my first pay in my new job last week. I have handed in my p45 and on my recent payslip it showed all taxes which I have paid for the year so I assume this has been processed by payroll.

As far as I can make out I was put on emergency tax for the week gone. I was in a lower paid job previously and had a couple of months without employment but was taxed as if I was on my current salary all year. Is this how week 1 emergency tax works?

I had taught that the employer normally refunds tax overpayments but I was wondering as it's late in the year does this make a difference?

Also if it doesn't get sorted by the end of the year how long would it take to claim it back in the new year? Can I just request a p21 or do I need to submit a p60 also?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Its too late in the year for your employer to sort it now. You will be able to enter your p60 details online in your PAYE Anytime account in 2016. This will generate a P21 for you and allow any payment of Tax to be repaid automatically to you.

OK. Since my payslip shows all earnings can I use that or do I need to wait for the p60?

Also will I need to worry about getting emergency taxed for the last 2 weeks of the year?

You can use your payslip but most people are advised to wait for the p60 figures as incorrect figures from payslips are input all the time. Your payroll section is the only one who can give you a definite answer as to how your last 2 weeks will be taxed. I'd suggest a call to them tomorrow.
