There is no vent on the internal side. I'm concerned that it is an entry point for mice. Thanks.

It is for ventilation under floors.

You will see the inside floor area will be above this hence you see no vent.

If you feel its got wide gaps you could place a fine wire mesh over it.

I think the gaps might be wide enough for a mouse to enter. We seem to be getting them a lot lately and that is the only entry point that they could reasonably get in by. The mouse/mice noise is definitely coming from that wall.

Lots of houses have them, you can screw a really fine mesh over them and still allow air flow.

meant to add it also is possible as a wall vent as the walls need air circulation.

Mice will get in almost anywhere.

Mesh on the vent may help they will come in through any gaps such as ones left at pipe exits/entrants.

I'm inferring from that, that putting a mesh in would be futile, as they'll find another way in.

Find any gaps you can and either permanently fill or wire mesh.

Make it as hard as possible.

Is it a timer frame house op? Timber frame houses seem to always have these.

It's a semi detached. Built in the 70s I think, maybe earlier. I couldn't tell you if it's timber frame or not.
