    I would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness about new EU candle regulations. Here are a few points from the legislation- ‘Never leave a burning candle unattended.’ ‘Burn candle out of the reach of children and pets.’ ‘Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.’ There are also regulations included concerning the length of candles etc. It is great that our EU leaders have taken the time to address this issue.

    It is recommended not to skydive while holding a lit candle.

    It is not recommended that you try to light a candle while skydiving. Complete waste of time.

    Your home is at risk if you light a candle under the stairs.

    Thanks for this OP. I often leave candles burning when I'm at work and my poor dog is at home alone. I didn't realise I was breaking an EU regulation!

    I think it is time that your candle privileges were removed.

    Do the EU bureaucrats specify how much candle wax it's acceptable to pour on your partners breasts during love making?

    What I read had all that as precautions while the regulations included..

    The safety of the product shall not rely on complicated user procedures

    Free-standing candles or candles supplied with a holder or container shall remain stable (e.g. not tip over) during burning

    Materials used in or on candles and candle supports, containers and accessories shall not spread or create a secondary flame at any stage during the normal burning of a candle or during its final extinction

    The presentation and illustration of the product as well as any information provided shall not play down risks to any potential user

    My girlfriend warned me that if I got her one more stupid gift then she would burn it, so I got her a candle.
    That showed her.

    I believe you're no longer allowed to do that to candles under the new EU regulations so you don't have to anymore.

    That's a typo. It should read "I don't know who Canada Snuffer is?" The answer is that he is the most prolific serial killer in Manitoba history.

    Any mention of burning candles at both ends?

    Year ago there were cards on the Dart with poems written on them.

    My candle burns at both ends;
    It will not last the night;
    But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
    It gives a lovely light!

    I don't have the writer's name unfortunately, but the poem always made me think of Phil Lynott

    Did it ever cross your mind that the leaders are not involved with this but lower lever administrators are? Same way as government works?

    Are people supposed to annoyed by this or something? All they've done is make it a requirement for manufacturers to include some basic safety info on their products, which is already law in most countries

    Any excuse for a moan by the anti-eu loons

    I heard that if the lit end of the candle is hotter than most other bits of the candle.
    Doesn't mention anything bout eating candles , there I'm going to make my mother in law a cake from candles.
    That makes tremendous sense. Cakes quite often have candles.

    Is there anything about forcing pubs and restaurants to turn on the lights instead of operating in the dark with candles dotted around the place for 'mood'?

    on a more serious side its "Updated Regulations", but sure the euro sceptic press will make a song and dance about it (maybe a regulation to stop that!)

    The boring safety bit such as keep away from children, never leave unattended etc have been in force for many years. Additional regulation ansure the chemical numbers of fragrances are given and due to some companies putting dramatic looks over stability of the candle, stabilty of the lighted candle must be considered.

    Fairly simple and very much for the manufacturers and very much to do with safety.

    From being the the footwear business and having to deal with regulations (you thnk candle reglations are bad!!) - they do seem OTT to the consumer, but understand that there are companies out there that will cut corners and hope for the best and this stops those companies selling unsafe products.
