The Aspire Atlantis 2 heating wire

Does anyone know what metal is used for the Aspire Atlantis coil? I ordered one but since then I've been hearing about the possible dangers of nickel wire. For the life of me I cannot find anything on the net that tells you what metal is used in the coils of these or any other tanks. I really do not want to be vaping off of nickel if I can help it.

I would assume kanthal. Isn't nickel used for temp control.

    I'm not sure though.

These are the available options, as long as you did not buy the 0.15 Ohm Ni200 coils then you will be fine. Ni200 coils are as said above only for temp control vaping, some opinion suggests if you don't use them with a TC mod that you will overheat them causing the Nickel to oxidise and create Nickel Oxide which is carcinogenic.

    * Resistance:
    0.3 Ohm
    0.4 Ohm
    0.5 Ohm - Clapton
    1.8 Ohm
    0.15 Ohm (Ni200 - Temp Control)

I have some 0.5 Ohm Claptons for my triton and I am very impressed with them over regular Kanthal coiling.

Yeah I think so but I'm a bit confused about it all. Along with the tank I ordered a istick 40w tc. So does this mean that if it is kanthal (which I'm hoping it is) the temp control function is redundant?

The Ohms will be stamped on the side of the coil, they are also colour coded so once they arrive you will be able to check what you have, I would imagine your receipt also should help tell what they are, what does it say?

If its kanthal, you should use it in wattage mode rather than temp mode.

Many thanks for this Inquitus that is a great help, thank God for technically minded people like you! So I was able to check those numbers against the specs given for the coils in the Aspire website and there was no 0.15. So that's alright then.

What happens if you do use it in temp mode, just out of curiosity. Will it simply not fire? Will it just taste horrible? Will my house explode?

I don't think its possible to measure temp on kanthal.

I don't know if it just wouldn't fire or something worse. Pre made coils are expensive enough without 'experimenting'. Someone else might know what happens.

I missed this reply, thanks again, I just checked the coils I'm using in my Nautilus Mini with the above advice and am pleased to find they are are 1.6. I knew it was unlikely they would be nickel but there's nothing like being completely sure.

Thanks. I'll just avoid the temp control then until I'm convinced it is safe to use Nickel coils.

TC is fine with Nickel, you set the temp, the mod regulates the temp and the wire never exceeds your setting. Ni is only an issue if you use it without TC and it can get hot enough to oxidise.

But I did read that nickel can leech into the juice regardless of temp. Now that could have been a troll just trying to put the willies up people, but for a hypochondriac like myself, it was enough to put me off.

I did a lot of reading this area and this link probably sums up the conclusions I drew.

    http://www.wakeandvape.com/blog/regarding-nickel-concerns-and-vaping/

There are also concerns about how some flavourings react when heated and potential health issues associated with inhaling them.

But tbh wth both the nickel issue and the flavouring issues I think we are getting into the same sort of territory as all the scare stories about various foodstuffs and the risk of them causing cancer e.g. Beef etc.

Each to their own, but I am currently not worried about Ni and Temp Control, no more than I am worried about my flight to America on Monday crashing! ;)

Haha well that's true isn't it. Nothing is without risk.

Thanks for the info. I wish you a safe flight

Edit: I just noticed that the article you linked to is the one that I read. Jorge Gasteazoro down in the comments section is the guy that put me off, reading him again he seems pretty hostile to say the least so maybe just a troll.
