    Hi Guys,

Just started full time employment last month and i'm kind of stil a noob on the whole TAX thing.

I'm getting taxed every month by a considerable amount.

What do I have to do to claim these taxes back and stop getting taxed so much?

    Thanks guys,

    Appreciate it.

No expert but you are probably on emergency tax. A trip to the tax office is in order.

status W would usually signify you are on a week/month 1 basis. ie each month you are just getting one month's worth of credits. Normal status would be C (cummulative) or O (ordinary) whereby you would have 12 months worth of tax credits spread evenly over the 12 months. weeks or months where you didn't use the credits are accumulated.

If you have only just started full time work its possible you have unused credits so its best to ring the tax office to get it sorted. Have you registered your new job with them yet? you can't rely on the new employer to do this for you, they don't always do it too quickly and as its your pocket that gets the hit for tax, you might as well get it sorted. quick phone call should do it - you do need the new employer's company registered number (it should be on a payslip or ask Payroll office). Its possible at this time of the year, it'll be too late to sort it out as sometimes Revenue stop issuing new tax certs late in the year, but you will get back any taxes you have overpaid once you request a balancing statement after January 2016.

use this link to find out which tax office deals with your area.
