I had a test drive of this A6 yesterday and going back tomorrow for another look

    http://www.chapmanskildare.ie/viewanad.php?ad_id=1295207

Its a UK import and has been in the country for about 6 months registered to the garage

Its had one service since new at 18,000miles and I just need to verify this by seeing the service history

Any other checks I can do? I'd like to get a more detailed UK history of the car once I get the UK plate...should this be on the paperwork for the car?

What uk sites can I use to check the cars previous history to verify it hasn't been in a crash, etc?

    Thanks in advance

The Irish Vehicle Licensing Certificate under J.4 Previous Registration Number will show the UK reg. I'd check on Cartell or Motorcheck and then when you see the service history I would call each of the dealers to confirm when it was serviced, it may have only had 1 or 2 at most services since new. It's a nice looking car, very good spec.

Looks clean and tidy but the spec on it isn't great imo. Pre facelifted model with no xenon headlights and no front heated seats, still pretty poor for a 2014 large size premium car. Ok, those things might not be important to everyone but given it's a 39k car I'd expect more for my money.

The spec is a bit ****e. The one thing I'd expect from a UK import is that'd have spec far better than most of the poverty stuff here.

Popular misconception that, there are plenty of lower spec cars in the uk too.

I think the only difference between an Irish spec A6 SE and UK spec model was the UK model had sat nav as standard. Xenons were only standard on the S Line back then afaik.

Of course there are. I was only there on Wednesday. My point is that there's a **** load more choice if you want something decent. I'm looking at few Volvos and Lexus at the moment and the spec are shocking here. You might get winter pack if you're lucky on the Volvo. Most of the really tasty options are like hens teeth. And with VRT and exchange rate that's the pretty much the reason why you'd get a car from the UK now.

haven't had chance yesterday to check through the full spec which I will be doing tomorrow, but I test drove an Irish SE spec on Friday and it had heated front seats, so would have thought this UK model would aswell, but will check

OP just FYI these don't have a service book. They use the Audi digital service schedule recording system. So you won't find a book with stamps in it but if you call an Audi dealer with the VIN they will be able to give you the details.

looking at the ad, its listed as a 6 speed, but its actually an 8 speed

It's a CVT gearbox so the 8 "gears" are just points built into the software.

I personally don't like the driving experience of the Multitronic gearbox, especially under hard acceleration.

Is that the one that's more commonly known as Multichronic?

Well the original "Multichronic" was fitted to the C5 and C6 shape A6 and the B6/B7 A4. This car uses a different version which doesn't share any parts with the older gearbox, not as unreliable but still not nice to use IMO.

As a matter of interest are you able to write to this system or is it dealer only?

Yes we can. Any independent workshop can write to it once they are registered as a workshop with Audi's online information service.

Is there anywhere I can get the full spec of the car online from this year?

Do you know are they linked between Ireland and UK? Or do I need to call a uk dealer?

You can check its MOT history here:

    https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

assuming you have the UK reg ofc.

Probably doesn't apply to a 2014, but for future reference.

I don't know for sure but I would say they are linked as the system just works from the VIN. If you are going to send me the VIN for the spec I can also get the service info for you.

Can that satnav push down? It looks terrible it like something you'd see in a clio.

there is a button that you can press to retract it back into the dash

Its not as intrusive as I imagined it would be and its more than just a Sat Nav. All of the media and setup are on it, but this can also be done on the display between the odometer and rev counter

Privacy glass on the rears would look well on that..

gutted, went to Sheehys Naas today and the Daytona Grey S-Line Avant was sold on Saturday

    Keep looking

Took a saloon S-Line out for a drive just to get a feel for the S-Line and going to concentrate on these. Manual gearbox aswell was more fun with the S-Line

Have 2x manual S-Line Avants to look at by end of this week, if anyone spots any other good ones let me know

Beshoffs is certainly on my list to call over there and look at what they have

That white 520d is gorgeous. Don't know if I could live with a white car...amount of road works going on here lately and for next few years is killing me to keep my grey car clean

The white one has a few decent extras too - wide screen pro nav, 8 speed auto with paddle shift, rear privacy glass and xenons. I never considered white either but I'm not ruling it out in my next car. In some cars it's stunning and easier to keep than black.

Would the timing chain issue be something to be concerned about on this one?

Its kind of the reason I was steering clear of 520d

    What spec on the A6?

    SE

couldn't justify the premiums still being asked for the S-Line on used examples. Its a UK SE spec so has Pro Sat Nav and heated leather seats

S-Lines of equivalent age and mileage were asking 5-6k more

Delighted for you. Happy motoring. The A6 is a crackin car.
