    Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice.bought a brand new car earlier in the year.unfortunately car was broken into last week with the passenger side window smashed in.have noticed that small bits of glass had lodged into the passenger seat and have caused some of the material to fray. Would people reckon it might be worth my while explaining what's happened to the dealer and see if they might look after me under the warranty?would appreciate peoples thoughts

How is this a warranty claim? As in what mistake/failure did the manufacturer do which lead to damage of the seats?

Your insurance company should be made aware of it as the repair may be covered as part o the claim.

Certainly not warranty. More of an insurance claim issue.

Thanks for that! My post was more along the lines of if the dealer might help me out under the warranty in some way.trying to avoid the insurance route as don't want premiums etc impacted

But it's not a warranty issue.

    It's an insurance issue.

Can't see it happening. Manufacturers monitor warranty claims and would see patterns in claims on models. They wouldn't pay out on a previously unheard if random fault like this without investigation. The dealer knows this and would be unlikely to even try.

So you're going to ask the main dealer to make a fraudulent claim.
As others have posted its an insurance issue

Get a detailer to look at the seat. It mightn't be as bad once it's cleaned up.

Will do. Probably wouldn't bother most but just want the car back to what it was before broken into.

If it's that important to you to have the car "back to what it was "before the break in why don't you just pay for it ???
Instead you contemplate to avoid your insurance premium being affected bringing the car back to the dealer to see if they can pursue a warranty claim on your behalf, if their claim does not get paid for by the manufacturer will you then re imburse the dealer ??? I doubt it !
And people say motor dealers can't be trusted, I think we should look at their customers first of all, unbelieveable.

I think the OP just didn't understand how warranty works with dealers.
To someone who isn't used to dealing with this sort of stuff - it wouldn't be unreasonable to think a garage that you dropped €30k in might pull a few strings with the manufacturer and get a replacement cover. It obviously doesn't work like this, but it doesn't make the OP as bad as you're making out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 tkelly121

Colm mcm, I hear what your saying but I can't accept that the OP could be that foolish, he wants the dealer to pull the wool over the eyes of the manufacturer in order to save him money & jeopardise their relationship with the manufacturer, now if it was the dealer pulling the wool over the OP's eyes then everyone here would be reading about it.

He really hasn't thought this through & should do in future if he/she expects someone to lie on his/her behalf and damage their reputation.

Oh ya. The big bad customer trying to push the good dealer into a fraudulent claim.
It wouldn't be unheard of for a dealer to see the fault, state that it's clearly not A Warranty issue, order the part at full cost to customer then put a Warranty claim in too.
It clearly is not a warranty issue in this case but the op here was only asking a question thinking that maybe the manufacturer would look after it.

Ah ya sure I'll just go ahead and pay for it,sure why would I even see if something might be able to be done to help me.was my fault the car was smashed into, being so negligent parking it up in the underground car park in the development I live in.must go out and pick some money off the trees outside-dont know why I just didn't think of that.

Absolutely, the big bad customers and the unwitting vulnerable dealers.UNBELIEVABLE.I asked a question initially, a simple question. Have never had a new car before and was merely asking if the dealer might be able to help me out and how stringent the manufacturer enforces same.hardly the crime of the century.
