Purchasing travel insurance for PART of your trip?

    Is this allowed?

I have an annual multi-trip policy that covers me up to 30 days for an individual trip. Let's say I wish to make a trip lasting 40 days.

Can I just purchase a single trip policy to cover the last 10 days of my trip? Or do they require that a single policy covers the entirety of your trip?

No, the time you leave your home address is when it begins, you can't begin outside this.

Thanks for that. I have a follow up question...

Like I said, my annual multi-trip policy covers me for trips of up to 30 days. If I did take a 40 day trip, would I still be insured for the 1st 30 days of that trip under this policy? Or would they not provide any cover at all because my trip exceeds the 30 days they allow?

You won't be covered for any of the 40 day trip.

You can get policies that cover individual trips of longer than 30 days. The premium isn't hugely higher either. I have a policy that covers up to 90 days for a single trip.

You can also get a policy to cover part of your trip (separate policy really) and you can take out a policy while abroad - World Nomads do it, not sure if there are others. I did that this year for a two week period to a country that wasn't covered on my annual policy as the DFA advised against travel there.

Which insurer covers trips of up to 90 days as part of an annual policy? The most I could find is 60 days.

getcover.ie. It's 50% extra over the standard policy.
