Changing a diesel filter

Recently picked up a diesel freelander with 120k on it. Have done oil, air, crankcase breather and pollen filter replacement and was thinking of getting a fuel filter until I saw where it was located, absolute nightmare of a job by the looks of it.
Whats people's opinions on changing them? I generally havent bothered with petrol engines I've had but is it more of a necessity with daysul?

Most diesels need a regular diesel filter change, not sure about landys but intervals for transits etc are around 60000 km iirc. Very important that the correct one is used as the filtration is measured in microns and the wrong filter can cause plenty issues. Not sure about the landy but most diesel filters require priming but some you will get away with pre-filling only. Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgable of the specific model will come along soon with more specifics but yes, needs changing in diesel much more than petrol.

    Is this a Td4 you have ?
Some of these have 2 electric fuel pumps - one in the tank and one up front near the filter .
Clogged up filters can place a strain on these pumps as they try to force fuel to the engine .
So changing is important . You may find the old filter very difficult to remove from its housing if its a long time there .
You may have to remove the housing from the vehicle and then try to remove the filter on the bench .

Yeah its a Td4 alright. Filter is in under the fuse box behind the wheel arch guard and inside a housing which is supposed to be tricky to remove.

I think bleeding won't be a problem as you have electric fuel pump(s) .
The pump will run for about 30 secs or so at a time , do this a few times and all should be well .
Been a while since I had dealings with one though .
Getting the old fuel filter out involves a bit of dismantling as far as I remember but unless the filter comes out of the housing easily its best to remove the housing and filter - and even then filter removal can be ******
