Tower Records Bluray Prices

Can anyone shed some light on why Tower's prices jump around in the way that they do?

The Masters of Cinema edition of Pasolini's Accatone is currently €39.99, whereas other releases in that series come in at around the €25 mark.

Also, BFI's Herzog boxset is €99.99!

I realise that Tower cannot be as cheap as Amazon for a whole host of reasons, but how can they be that much more expensive. Also, why is there such a variety in pricing between films of the same series, which I assume have arrived via the same distribution channels, etc.

This isn't a dig at Tower. I buy a lot of my CDs and vinyl there and I accept that I have to pay a little bit more than I would online. That's fair enough. I'm just sick of walking past films that I'll end up buying online when I'd prefer to buy them from a bricks & mortar.

    Tower, take my money!

I always assumed their strategy to was to overprice the harder to find stuff. You probably wouldn’t even find Accatone in HMV. Of course, this isn’t as effective as it used to be, but they probably figure someone’s bound to bite eventually.

I always assumed their strategy to was to overprice the harder to find stuff..

That's why I asked why there was such a difference in price between different titles in the Masters of Cinema series. Virtually all of those titles are as obscure as each other and yet there can be quite a difference in price. There's no reason why Accatone should be that price while something like Punishment Park is €25. They're both the only hi-def versions of their respective films in this part of the world.

One of my conspiracy theories is that Accatone was bumped up because of Abel Ferrara's recent biopic of Pasolini. Pasolini is rarely on the shelves, so could they have been trying to take advantage of an unsuspecting movie buff that had picked up on Ferrara's film. The '€39.99' was even scribbled on with red marker rather than a usual printed sticker.

But that's very cynical of me. Surely there's nobody in there trying to manipulate things to that extent.

Doesn't it cost more to get in one edition of a niche film rather than say 100 copies of the latest blockbuster ? Maybe the reason is that it cost allot for them to buy it from the supplier ?

Tower Records have always been way too expensive for film, DVD as well as BluRay ..

If I buy in a bricks and mortar store, I´ll always choose HMV over Tower.

Tower Records is a rip off. A CD I was looking for was 10 Pound on amazon but cost 22 Euro in Tower.

I don't mind paying a bit more for going into a real shop but there prices are taking the piss.
