4G sim, using 3G phone

Quick question, I have an old iPhone 4s and new iPhone 6s. I cut the 4s sim into a nano sim size and put it into the 6s and all is working fine on the new phone using 3G. I'm now thinking of moving to Meteor's 4G sim only plan as the phone supports it. I presume they'll provide me with a new 4G nano sim card.

I want to use my 4s as a backup phone. In order to use it as a backup phone, can I just get an adapter to make the 4G sim fit the iPhone 4s? I know I wont get 4G in it, but will I get 3G speeds?

Assuming the 4g sim is a nano sim, then it work fine.
