Using RF Modulator with Amiko Alien 2

    Hi there,

I wonder could anyone help me please. I purchased an amiko alien 2 the other day and have set it up downstairs (with a bit of help, I'm not he most tech savvy). I'm using it to replace my current Sky which I also have upstairs using the rf out and sky eye.

On the Amiko box there is no RF out so I purchased a Triax RF modulator kit. I have dc power in, connected the scart from amiko to modulator av in, channel set to 36 on modulator & tv cable from upstairs to the rf out on amiko box. With the sky eye and the sky box I set it up previously, I just quickly scanned through upstairs tv channels and it picked it up easy.... not so much with the amiko.

I was just wondering has anyone done this setup before, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You might need to change AV output settings in amiko from hdmi to scart

Is the amiko running spark or enigma 2

Running enigma. I followed instructions and thought it would be simple but nothing coming through on tv upstairs. At moment I have scart from amiko to modulator. Amiko only has one hdmi port, would have to get a splitter to try out hdmi/scart.

you have me slightly confused, you mention rf out on amiko box!! also as mentioned you need to be sure the amiko outputs a signal via scart as well as hdmi, can you plug scart into tv and see. its quite possible the amiko is set at 1080i and some boxes wont allow output via scart t same type. you may have to change resolution to rgb or scart. its important to be sure scart is outputting. i dont have the amiko. i use modulator with a uno but its not a triax. i take it you are not still connecting to sky box.

The amiko has no rf out, hence why I'm having to try use a modulator... well on advice from some tech guy. He sais it should work fine, i'm clearly doing something wrong.

I'm not very tech savvy to be honest so struggling a wee bit. Yeah you might be right mate, I haven't had too much time to play around with it but will on the weekend. I currently use a triax link with the new sky box that has no rf which plugs into the io port out and has worked fine. But amiko has no rf out or io port.

this is in your first post " 6 on modulator & tv cable from upstairs to the rf out on amiko box" that has thrown me. ok now. there is a big thread on here about the amiko. i'll ask about outputs and see what they say.

Its easy when you know how so just take it slow.

The junction from the Amiko is scart to scart IN on the Triax (the default Channel on the Triax boxes is Ch36). Here...

there you go and yes scart does output a signal when hdmi is in use. confirmed on amiko thread. and i notice that amiko takes a dtt tuner as well so it will have rf in and rf out, it wont ouput the channel from the amiko box but it will allow pass through, ie you can coonect to rf in on modulator and it can then be combined with scart out channels, n other words if other tv has soarview this will allow you to get dtt as well as ch36 ie the amiko channels.

    simples

I'm using the same setup as the OP is looking for and when setting it up I had to change the video output setting to "scart" in order to get the tri link to work.

It still outputs on the hdmi lead also .

I don't know if this will make a difference but I have all my stuff (sky, blu ray etc) and now my amiko connected through an av receiver for surround sound downstairs. Think this is making things a wee bit more complicated. I basically have the rf mod connected to av receiver through hdmi.

You mean SCART? You have the SCART looped through the modulator, from the Amiko box to the AV receiver?

And have you actually got it working the way you want?

There is no scart connection on the av receiver.

No, I haven't got it working it's getting tedious now as I have things mounted and cables buried. I'm consedering ust getting another cable dropped from satellite directly into room & buying another box. At least then me and the missus can watch different channels at same time.

I was going by this previous post ...
I have scart going in av receiver for surround sound atm.

And there's no HDMI connection on the Tri-Link, so I don't know how you could 'have the rf mod connected to av receiver through hdmi'.

To get the output of the Amiko box to the upstairs TV, all you need is SCART from Amiko to Tri-Link AV-in, & connect the cable feeding the upstairs TV to Tri-Link RF-out, & scan the upstairs TV for the relevant channel of course.

Where you are confusing yourself is bringing the A/V amp into the equation.

    So.....

HDMI cable from amiko to TV. Does your A/V amp have a digital input ? If so connect the digital/Toslink cable from the Amiko S/PDIF port to the A/V receiver. If not use the red and white audio outputs on the amiko to your a/v amp with phono leads.

    Now the Tri Link.

The one marked TV on the back of the Amiko box connects with a scart cable to the Scart 1 on the Tri Link! The IR sensor cable is connected to the back of the Tr Link box and the sensors stuck on to the front of the Amiko Box. This allows you to change channel in the other room.

Now connect the previous RF cable that you used for your old sky box to the RF2 output. In the other room where your wife want to watch tv connect the cable that was going to the tv to the sky eye device, the sky eye device in turn connects to the aerial port on your tv.

Tune into channel 36 on TV in other rooms for this to work.

Hey. Just a question on this setup. I understand that tri link has scart IN to which you can connect say a free to air box for rf2. How does sky also be sent through rf2 modulator if it does not connect to the tri link box. Thanks

    Through the rf in port

    Through the rf in port

Ah ok, that might explain why I am having issues with my setup. I would like to watch sky & zgemma box in a 2nd room but my RF IN has nothing connected on tri link box.
Only the zgemma box comes through to my 2nd room at minute. I have set my channel to 56 on the triax box. After running automatic scan it only found 1 analogue channel at 56 (zgemma channel). Sky use to be on channel 68 in the 2nd room but all I get now is a white snowy screen. So do I need to run a cable from my sky box to RF IN. Thanks.

    This is my setup

    RF1 (Out) --> free
RF2 (Out) --> the cable that use to connect to my sky RF2 (out)

    RF (In) --> free
DC (In) --> wall power supply

Scart (In) --> coming from zgemma box
Scart (Out) --> going into back of tv 1

Go from rf2 on sky box to rf in on tri link and then it should pick up on channel 68 again

Cool, I must source a cable for that and give that a try. Thanks
