How am I supposed to find so many references?!

I've just been offered a job with a public sector company. I initially had to list 3 references, and now they are asking for 3 more!
Since I finished college a few years ago I haven't really been working (due to lack of jobs in my field). I've done a jobbridge and other than that just some private work where I could get it.
I've listed one educational referee, and one colleague (who was a different profession) from my jobbridge. I had a good relationship with my supervisor until recently when I can no longer get hold of them. They moved jobs a few months back and I don't have any work details for them now, just a personal phone number, which I am not getting any replies/answers off.
(None of these have been contacted yet - the company are still waiting to receive ALL my referees.)

Now I am being asked to provide further referees - 2 from placements at college. I studied abroad and have lost contact after 3-5 years, as all my supervisors on placement have moved jobs. I was in the NHS, which has a very high turnover and have no idea how to find anyone I worked with there anymore. I also don't think they would even remember me at this stage with the amount of students they have every year. I have tried calling one NHS centre and they have told me they can't give out any details about where they went (fair enough!).
They have also asked for another reference from a manager (not just a colleague or supervisor) from my jobbridge. I didn't really have contact with the managers, but have emailed one in the hope they get back to me and say yes.

Any suggestions? Any ideas of who else I could ask?

Surely you can get in touch with people from your placements via LinkedIn?

How about personal referees - do you do any volunteer work, sports involvement, community groups?

Contact the HR department of where you did your placement and of the NHS. They should be able to write a reference for you. Normally there would be some kind of file kept on you while you were there (performance questionaire etc) so they will be able to write something for you.

The likelihood is they just wanted confirmation that you worked there when you said you did and did the role that you said you did.

I've tried finding my supervisors on LinkedIn and facebook... no luck. The company have specifically asked for work (placement) references in addition to personal references.

Thanks miaireland - I will do that. I have signed forms that I had to get filled in for college which say when I was on placement, how many hours I completed and a brief list of what I did there which are signed by my supervisors. They might be helpful if they are just looking to confirm I was there.
