Folks, any concerns for this engine? Are the issues with the previous Mazda 2.2 Diesel resolved with this one?

I'm lurking at a replacement car at the moment and one option is a Mazda

    Thanks

They seem to be, but there's a whole host of other issues

If it weren't for issues with the engines, I'd be all over one. Fantastic to drive, great looking car, and interior is OK (not great, not terrible). Lack of storage in pre facelift cars does let it down, but there is no way in hell I'd put my own money in to one, and we are doing our best to persuade people not to order them due to persistant engine issues, with very poor aftersales backup from most of the network.

What are the issues ROR? We have 2 in the family and they have been great so far with no issues whatsoever. I really like them tbh.
Crappy dealership and back up issues aside, what's actually wrong with the engines?

Early one had an issue with the crankshaft, so that needed replacing. They weren't recalled, just done while it was in for service, but most of the dealers weren't / aren't aware of the issue, so need to diagnose, wait for auth from Mazda and then order parts (on back order). Biggest issue was if there was a problem before the rectification work was done, as it meant the brake vacuum failed and that made braking a bit tricky.....

Had issues with Turbo's failing around 65k.
Oil pump in the sump going
    Fuel pump going
Order time on parts being ludicrous.

Cheers for that heads up. I'm disappointed to hear all that as I was interested in a Mazda6 when the time comes to replace my 159.

I'm just curious, where's your info coming from?

still on the lookout for a replacement motor

going to have a look at this A6 Avant at the weekend. Mileage is ridiculously low for a 12 reg. this place has some high end motors and spec of this one is really good
friend has a 10 reg with the auto and says its best car he ever had

any concerns / thoughts on it?
    any A6 owners out there?

I'm not the biggest Audi fan but the A6 Avant is the exception

They have some very nice stock alright, was browsing some BMW 5 Series they have but the money is very strong on them, nearly at main dealer prices who offer a 2 year warranty with theirs.

Multitronic gearbox is not supposed to be that nice to drive.

    Thanks, good to know

Multitronic is CVT, perhaps it works better in diesels but in the 1.6 Toyota Auris I drove recently it utterly ruined what was otherwise a pretty good car. And when I say ruined, I mean it completely and utterly destroyed the driving experience, driving it in manual mode transformed the driving experience and made it a lot more pleasant, but that to me defeats the whole point of an automatic in the first place.

Had this issue with mine, noticed the brakes weren't as sharp as they should be; went to demonstrate the SCBS Anti-collision braking by driving at a hedge. Normally when this kicks in, the car just stops absolutely stone dead, in Zero inches. -Not this time! Just as well the front is all plastic.
I was told it was the camshafts, 2 weeks repair time.

    No other issues since, 175Km.

But wind and road noise is still very much an issue.
