The links just bring you to the search page for used cars. Not to the specific cars.

Jaysus, the price of them! Soon to be 2/3 years old

Put it this way OP, if you were trading in both of those cars, there would be a much bigger gap in the trade-in price between both than a shade over 2k.

Correct - I did mean those two.

Hard to find two cars with same mileage etc and a year apart for context.

I think both are overpriced anyway and you can find cheaper versions on carzone with other garages.

I assume that it's turboed or something. That's an awfully big bus for a little 1.2 engine.

Thanks that's what I was asking I guess. What sort of difference would you expect if trading in both.

15.5/16k for first one and 12/12.5k for second?

Yes it's the VW TSI engine afik (105bhp)

I'd buy it from a main dealer personally, I bought mine from a Skoda garage middle of last year 141 model. Mine is the diesal but I did look at the TSi model and felt the diesal would benefit me more on the frequency of motorway runs I'm always doing.

I usually buy main dealer no issue there - I just meant I think this particular dealer is expensive. Pilsen and the likes seem a bit cheaper for Skoda. Out of Dublin one seems better value.

    Yes and no.

I've just traded in a 131 Yeti 1.2TSI with very low mileage for €17k (including the discount, €15,750 without) for a new Yeti 1.2TSI which was retailing at around €26k. The dealer was very interested in doing a deal as he had several buyers for our Yeti lined up. If there is demand the prices will be bolstered by this. There is also a lack of stock with petrol engines so any demand can potential bolster the prices.

Christ the idea of a 1.2 in a Octavia makes me cringe.
Have you both driven one? If not I'd strongly encourage you to do so. While they won't set the world alight they are far better than the 1.4l and 1.6 litre engines they replaced. Also the new model Octavia is lighter than the old one.

So I assume it makes much more sense to buy the first one if you plan on trading in after 3 years or so but the cheaper one (given they are same car and mileage) if you plan to drive it for 5 - 8 years (to get value from it).

TBH I'd check out the price of a new one if you were buying the 141 reg. It may not be a huge step up.

Works out about €23.5k for ambition with no add ins plus delivery charges to come (I assume never bought a new car - €600 - €700?).

So a good €4k extra at least.

New car, full warranty and you're the only one to have driven it, I'd very much think that's worth it.

If you are open to PCP or regular finance then you could find that a brand new one might work cheaper in monthly payments. Of course it depends on other factors too and whether these methods are suitable to you. I would suggest weighing up the maths on both.

yep. buying one 2 years old twice over 5 years doesn't make as much sense as buying new

Average price of 2014 car is €22,370 (Based on 845 cars) whilst the average for a 2013 is €18,735 (Based on 1000 cars) So whilst not a massive data set, its fairly representative when you look at the overall trend down the years. Its nearly a perfect exponential trend which makes me think a good deal of pricing is influenced by the market makers not the market.

model change in 2013, so that'd skew results

I believe the mk3 had a higher base price over the mk2 also
