So divorce is legal in Ireland for 20yrs now, but we have one of the lowest rates in Ireland. Do we just separate a la Bertie Ahern, Bill Cullen etc & get with a new partner, but don't divorce & don't remarry & no one bats an eyelid?!

(Or do we have a massive marriage success rate?)

    Who would bat an eyelid..?

How is this a personal issue for you exactly?

I'd guess by the time people have paid for a wedding and a separation the extra money for divorce seems pointless.
Most things are sorted out during a legal seperation, the main extra from divorce is the right to re-marry as far as I know.

If I were breaking up with my wife I wouldn't be bothered getting a divorce to be honest. Not sure what benefit there would be for me.

Well she'd stop getting entitlement to future assets or earnings . There would be the division of assets. If you broke up without a divorce who gets to keep living in the family house? She'll also get to pull the plug on you if you need medical decisions made
